The 2013 Soul Train Awards aired Sunday night on BET & Centric. This year the event was held at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas and was hosted by comedian Anthony Anderson.
Among the nights winners were Keith Sweat who was honored with the “Lifetime Achievement Award,” legendary singer Dionne Warwick who received the “Legend Award”. Robin Thicke, T.I., Pharrell, K. Michelle, Wale, Kendrick Lamar, Tamar Braxton, and Janelle Monae also took home wins this year.
Jennifer Hudson opened the show with a medley featuring Chaka Khan, T.I., and Evelyn “Champagne” King. There were also performances by Wale and Mint Condition’s Stokley Williams, K.Michelle, Tamar Braxton, Keith Sweat with Faith Evans, Ron Isley with Ruben Studdard, Chrisette Michelle, and Gladys Knight for a Dionne Warwick tribute. Jon B., Bobby Caldwell, Dave Koz, and Vanilla Ice rocked a “Blue-Eyed Soul” set, as Slick Rick, Warren G, Dougie E. Fresh, and Big Daddy Kane held it down with a classic hip-hop medley.
