What Y'all Listening To

Anthrax & Public Enemy – WYLT?

Hello, folks, welcome to another edition of What Y’all Listening To?, I got a pretty interesting track for you today. I first heard this song many, many years ago, on the soundtrack for the video game Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2. I used to love that game. I loved every song on that soundtrack, especially this one. It’s that rap/metal remix of “Bring The Nose” by Public Enemy featuring Anthrax. Or is it Anthrax featuring Public Enemy? It did appear on Anthrax’s Attack Of The Killer B’s. Doesn’t matter. It’s still awesome. This is a song I will never get tired of.
After releasing their debut album Yo! Bum Rush The Show in 1987 to critical acclaim, Scott Ian of the metal group Anthrax (who was a huge Public Enemy fan) in 1991 walked up to Chuck D (who he was and is good friends with) to remake Public Enemy’s 1988 song Bring The Noise (from It Takes a Nation of Millions). This song was apparently a response to Run DMC and Aerosmith’s Walk This Way and was very groundbreaking in creating the rap metal genre, influencing artists like Rage Against the Machine, Linkin Park, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Bloodhound Gang, etc. The guitar riff towards the end is a recreation of the Bring The Noise sample/synthesizer sound.
But that’s just me. What Y’all Listening To?
