Black people are always setting trends and influencing pop culture. I say this because the #MannequinChallenge was created by a bunch of Black teenagers. They recorded themselves, essentially, standing still like mannequins, while the camera moved around them, showcasing them in different and often hilarious positions. There have been countless attempts by other people copying the format, celebrities, even politicians. One of the more recent editions is inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, and police brutality.
“Black Lives Matter is an issue that’s important to me,” says the video’s director Simone Shepherd. “I felt that it was important to make sure that people didn’t forget those moments using this very viral movement that’s happening with the mannequin challenge.”
