While the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards are on everyone’s mind tonight, Hollywood is still making movies, y’all! And we got some box office results for you tonight. Now this week, things are not going to be all that surprising. Fantastic Four fell completely out of the top 10, as it should have, absolutely no surprises there. And there are especially no surprises when looking at what was #1 this weekend.
Straight Outta Compton come in again at #1 this week, being the king of the box office in August. The biopic brought in $13.2 million this weekend, bringing its domestic box office total to $134,126,000, with a budget of $28 million. The continuing success of this biopic is inspiring other hip-hop artists, like Raekwon and Primo, to talk about doing hip-hop biopics for their respective groups.
Coming in at #2 is War Room. Being touted as a Christian film, War Room is about a seemingly perfect family look to fix their problems with the help of Miss Clara, an older, wiser woman. It brought in $11 million at the box office, a respectable debut for the project. Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation has fallen to the #3 spot this week, bringing in $8,300,000, making its domestic total $170,386,530, with a worldwide box office take of $479,386,530 – on a $200,000,000 budget. The Owen Wilson thriller No Escape debuted at #4 bringing in $8 million, and Sinister 2 rounded out the top 5 with $4.6 million at the box office.
Fantastic Four fell down to #16, bringing in $1.7 million, finally breaking over a domestic total of $50 million this week – $52,663,098. Worldwide, it has $133,463,098. A couple decades ago, these numbers may have been decent. Right now, this is a major bomb.
