‘Captain America: Civil War’ – Russo Brothers Talk Approach To Characters

Captain America: Civil War

Captain America: Civil War can’t come fast enough, and Joe and Anthony Russo are still talking about the movie. At this point, they have done countless interviews talking about the tone of the film, the plot, the characters, the stakes and everything else. In this latest exclusive interview with Comicbook.com, they offer up even more details on the characters in the film.

We love ensembles, but I think we’re kind of in tune to the idea of telling the story that has more than a single protagonist. We like that kind of story. We like depth storytelling. We like layered storytelling. Joe and I, as we were developing the script with the writers, we like to pick a path and look at the script from every different character’s point of view. Even though it’s Cap’s movie, and the ultimate way we decide where to go with the film is filtered through Cap’s perspective, we do take time and walk ourselves through the story from every single character’s point of view as if its their movie.”

After another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps, one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

Captain America: Civil War is out May 6.
