This was definitely unexpected, I don’t think anyone saw this coming. Cate Blanchett is an amazing actress, and will now get the chance to play Lucille Ball in a biopic based on her life. What’s even more surprising? This is apparently going to be written by Aaron Sorkin. Who wrote The Social Network, The West Wing, The Newsroom and Danny Boyle’s upcoming biopic on Steve Jobs. Very surprising indeed.
The film, which focuses on Lucille Ball’s 2-decade marriage to Desi Arnaz – her co-star on the iconic television series, I Love Lucy – which ended in divorce in 1960.
The movie will be produced by Lucille Ball’s two children, Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr., and will track Ball’s life over the course of her 20-year marriage with I Love Lucy costar Desi Arnaz. Two TV movies have been about Ball: Lucy (2003), starring Rachel York, and Lucy & Desi (1991) with Frances Fisher and Maurice Bernard as the leads. Hm, we’ll with and see how this develops. Lucille Ball died in 1989 at the age of 77.
