David Oyelowo Is Set To Be The First Black James Bond

David Oyelowo

Well not quite but we’ll take it. David Oyelowo won’t be playing Mr Bond on the big screen but in Audio-book form. There is hope for Idris Elba yet.

Oyelowo was asked by the Ian Fleming Estate to record for Trigger Mortis, a novel by author Anthony Horowitz which will hit shelves 8th September. The book will take place two weeks after the events of Goldfinger, which means James Bond will be reunited with Pussy Galore.

Speaking to The Guardian, David Oyelowo explains “I am officially the only person on planet Earth who can legitimately say: ‘I am the new James Bond’ – even saying that name is the cinematic equivalent of doing the ‘to be or not to be’ speech.”

David Oyelowo has appeared in many high profile movies such as Lincoln, The Paperboy, The Butler and his big break came when he played Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the movie Selma which got him nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actor.

Let’s hope that this lead’s to the door being opened for a Black James Bond to appear on the big screen.
