Doctor Light Coming To “The Flash”

Doctor Light (Kimiyo Hoshi) The Flash

More and more casting news for the CW’s The Flash and it’s upcoming 2nd season, which I am getting so damn excited for. Along with the previous casting news, we now have even more villainous baddies being added onto the show – one of which is getting a gender switch.

Arrow fans may remember this character being mentioned as an ex-S.T.A.R. Labs employee in Season 2’s “The Man Under the Hood” episode, and this week it’s been confirmed that the female incarnation of Doctor Light (Kimiyo Hoshi) will appear as a metahuman on season 2 of The Flash. Gabriel Stanton told TV Line that “the female version” of Doctor Light will be debuting in popping up somewhere in season 2 of The Flash. See? Told you.

An actress has not yet been announced for the role, but it will almost certainly be Kimiyo Hoshi that she’ll be playing. Though the original Doctor Light was a villain, Hoshi was an astronomer that was introduced as a hero in 1985’s Crisis On Infinite Earths #4, having gained her powers from the Anti-Monitor. It remains to be seen how she will be adapted for the small screen of course. More and more diversity on these CW shows every week…I’m impressed.

Kimiyo Tazu Hoshi, a brilliant but arrogant and unpleasant scientist, was the supervising astronomer at an observatory in Japan, overseeing a group of astronomers charting the unnatural effects of the Crisis on Infinite Earths. She is also a medical doctor, as shown in Justice League Annual #3 (1989) and Justice League America #55 (October 1991). She can absorb all forms of illumination as energy. She can project energy, allowing her to shoot destructive laser beams and other blasts of destructive energy, blind her opponents with blinding flashes of light, and create protective barriers. She can focus photons into “hard light” (a fictional form of energy which acts like a solid object). She can refract lightwaves to create holographic images. She can turn into light, rendering her invisible to the naked eye. And a whole bunch more.

The Flash comes back to television October 6 on the CW.
