Mads Mikkelsen. You may remember him from the now-cancelled Fox show Hannibal, where he played Hannibal Lecter. Before that, you may have remembered seeing this gentlemen way back in 2006, in Casino Royale, as the film’s main bad guy. Mikkelsen has earned quite the reputation for his skills at playing complex and engaging villains. So why not keep that streak going with a role in a feature film as a bad guy…but not just any feature film…Doctor Strange!
According to Variety, Marvel is currently talking to Mads Mikkelsen to play a key villain in Sinister director Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange, set to begin production this fall, I believe. No details were released regarding which character the actor would play if he does join the film’s cast (which, as of right now, includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor among its members). Not much else is known, but speculation is that he could be in talks to play Dormammu.
Dormammu has been described as “something worse than a demon”. It is unknown exactly how ancient he is, as he inhabits a wholly alien realm, separate from the rest of the Marvel Universe, that defies the laws of physics as understood on Earth. He is known to have already existed at the creation of the current demonic netherworlds.
Ant-Man is now playing in theaters; Captain America: Civil War opens May 6, 2016, followed by Doctor Strange on November 4, 2016; Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on May 5, 2017; Spider-Man reboot on July 28, 2017; Thor: Ragnarok on November 3, 2017; The Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 on May 4, 2018; Black Panther on July 6, 2018; Captain Marvel on November 2, 2018; The Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 on May 3, 2019; and Inhumans on July 12, 2019.
