Hey, y’all. Well, the new year is almost here. And music is going to be just as important in our lives as it was this year. And this has been a hell of a year. Not just talking about the music, but, everything we have been dealing with lately. I don’t know about you, but “i” is going to remain as my theme. I still have not forgotten this track by Kendrick Lamar. I don’t think I ever will. It has brought me a great deal of confidence and positivity at a dark period in my life. Apparently the song didn’t do too well for Kendrick, in terms of downloads and radio play and what not. Some think it’s because he’s black. If he were white, would the song be popular? Interesting to think about.
But, this week’s What Y’all Listening To is dedicated to all of the new positive rappers that have come up in the game lately. Hip-Hop is headed in a pretty beautiful direction, we even got something resembling Public Enemy, at a time when it was absolutely needed. This will always be an important song to me. And who knows, maybe Kendrick opened a door for black artists to be more conscious and positive with their rap, I’m sure his album will do just that. I hope it does. 2015 will be very interesting. Don’t stop the conversations. Don’t stop the protests. Don’t stop listening to music. Don’t stop listening to that real Hip-Hop. That’s what we all about.
But that’s just me. What y’all listening to in the new year?
