This all seems to have happened incredibly fast, but Matt Damon & director Paul Greengrass are embarking on Bourne 5 and now a new interview with Damon has shed some light on what we can expect from this next installment. And in an interview with BuzzFeed, these are the quotes straight from the man himself on this 5th film.
“We always looked at those movies as really about the Bush presidency, and so we kind of had to wait for the world to change.”
“Without giving too much of it away, it’s Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world. It seems like enough has changed, you know? There are all these kinds of arguments about spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy.”
“We’re starting in Greece, you know, the beginning of democracy.”
“And the movie ends in Las Vegas, the most grotesque incarnation of….”
When he says “post-Snowden” he is referring to Edward Snowden, who was a former CIA employee, and former government contractor who leaked classified information from the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) in 2013. The information revealed numerous global surveillance programs, many run by the NSA and the Five Eyes with the cooperation of telecommunication companies and European governments.
Julia Stiles, Tommy Lee Jones, and Alicia Vikander are going to be in the film as well, with production beginning in just a few days in Greece, and ending in Las Vegas. Bourne 5 hits theaters July 29, 2016.
