At least that’s what Punisher: War Zone director Lexi Alexander suggested!
Many of us geeks have been waiting for announcements on who the female director would be for this 2017 Warner Bros. project. Now at first I was not too thrilled with the casting of Gal Gadot in the title role, but she has begun to grow on me, and she looked great in that Comic-Con photo as the character. That gave me a bit of hope. Wonder Woman is easily the most well-known and greatest female superhero, so she does need a very gifted director to usher her onto the silver screen for her debut.
Michelle MacLaren has directed episodes of the phenomenal AMC television series Breaking Bad, as well as being one of the show’s Executive Producers. She’s also directed episodes of Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead. Can you say geek cred? That is a solid resume, ladies and gentlemen. She certainly understands the behind-the-scenes process and politics of a heavily beloved intellectual property.
However, a frontrunner to direct the Wonder Woman film for a lot of fans is Kathryn Bigelow. I would be one of those fans. After her Best Director Oscar win for The Hurt Locker, she firmly established herself as an incredible and relevant director in Hollywood, regardless of gender. My choice would absolutely be Kathryn Bigelow, but, I’m not really mad at the idea of Michelle MacLaren directing a Wonder Woman film, if this is in fact true. She apparently has spoken to Warner Bros. and is in-talks to direct at this point.
So what do you think? Michelle MacLaren? Kathryn Bigelow? Maybe another female director I have not mentioned. Sound off with your thoughts below. Peace!
