The year 2017 is set to be remembered as one of the most epic in terms of hotly-anticipated movies released.
Superheroes, franchises, re-makes, and animated features dominate the upcoming schedules. Here is a look at the movies you can look forward to seeing at your local box office during the spring.
Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2
The second installment of the Marvel adventure following Star Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Baby Groot is released soon. Written and directed by James Gunn this movie is set to star an ensemble cast including Hollywood heavyweights such as Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Sylvester Stallone, and Kurt Russell. This fifteenth movie from the Marvel cinematic universe is set a few months after its predecessor and revolves around the Guardians of the Galaxy’s attempts to keep their fractious relationships stable. They must also try to find the truth behind Peter Quill’s parentage. The original grossed over $773 million worldwide so there are huge expectations attached to this latest outing.
This sequel to the Alien prequel, Prometheus, is set on board the colony ship Covenant. The ship and its crew are traveling to a remote part of the galaxy in search of new planets to colonize. The crew finds what they think is an uncharted paradise but the planet soon begins to reveal a darker and more dangerous side.
Wonder Woman could well be the hit that the DC Comics cinematic universe is craving. The movie is being released as a set-up for the Justice League movie that is scheduled for release later this year. Starring Gal Gadot in the lead role, this first installment of the Wonder Woman series will introduce audiences to Amazon Princess Diana who meets an American pilot washed ashore during World War I. She discovers about the ongoing conflict and takes up arms in an effort to help good defeat evil.
This upcoming comedy movie stars Amy Poehler and Will Ferrell as parents of a teenager who is off to college. The only issue is that they have obliterated their daughter’s college fund. The solution? Team up with their neighbors to run an illegal casino from their very own house without their daughter, or the cops, finding out. This movie is certain to have audiences craving to gamble with a chance of winning real money from the comfort of their own home rather than in a basement casino.
It does not seem that long ago that Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz teamed up for the original 1999 release of The Mummy. Now, 18 years on, Tom Cruise takes on the lead role in a remake that has got tongues wagging. The original grossed $413 million worldwide and spawned a series of sequels and spin-offs. This latest version is expected to form part of the Universal Monsters universe that will also include Frankenstein’s Monster, Dracula, Wolf Man, and The Invisible Man.
