Today is a pretty important day. Do you know why? Because today is the day that Doc Brown and Marty traveled to the future in Back to the Future II. While not everything shown in the film has come to fruition include, thankfully, the fashion trends, it looks like Nike is out to one thing a reality. The company has confirmed the Power Lace version of their iconic Air MAG shoes from the movie which bring us that much closer to the future. Nike had previously released the shoes as a special edition limited run, but they didn’t self tie. This time they will which makes them that much more desirable and will probably set Ebay on fire once the shoes are released. Of course, the first person to receive a pair was the man himself, Michael J. Fox. The Wrap recently reported on Fox’s receipt of said pair and they look pretty amazing. The shoe came with a letter from Nike designer Tinker Hatfield.
“Almost thirty years ago we started a journey to create a glimpse into the future. Although the project started as fiction, we’re now proud to turn that fiction into fact. As the first, most celebrated wearer of the Nike Air MAG, we wanted you to be the first to receive a living pair.”
Just like the previous release, the shoe will have a limited run. It will only be available by auction and proceeds will be donated to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. The exact date of the auction will be announced via Twitter in Spring 2016 so now would probably be a good idea to follow @Nike. We can only speculate at what the price of a pair will be but given how the last shoe did, it’s safe to say that it will cost a pretty penny which is most likely why they’re waiting until Spring 2016 to do the auction. Start saving now, it’s going to be a bidding war of epic proportions. For those who are feeling generous, I’m a size 9 1/2 but I can live with a 10.
