Oscar Nominee Alfre Woodard Coming To Netflix’s “Luke Cage”

All year we have been reporting on news about Daredevil and it’s 2nd season which is currently filming, along with Jessica Jones, which is set to premier in just a couple of months. What we haven’t heard much on is Luke Cage and Iron Fist, particularly Iron Fist. But within the last month or so, we’ve been getting some snippets of casting news regarding Netflix/Marvel’s upcoming solo show for one half of the Hero’s For Hire.

Award winning actress Alfre Woodard has been officially brought into the cast of Marvel and Netflix’s Luke Cage TV series, alongside Mike Colter in the title role. According to Deadline, Woodard will be playing a character named Minetta, who is “a powerful woman in local politics who will have an impact on Luke Cage’s life.” However, they also go on to say that they’ve heard she’s actually playing a version of professional criminal and a drug dealer Black Mariah, who was a foe of both Cage and Iron Fist in the comics.

Luke Cage will debut after Jessica Jones, probably after the 2nd season of Daredevil, and Cheo Hodari Coker will serve as executive producer and showrunner. That role Woodard was nominated for was in the 1983 film Cross Creek. What are your thoughts on all this?
